THE CARBON CYCLE IN THE DESERT
The carbon cycle in the desert is a quick process. Firstly, the desert’s plants absorb carbon dioxide. The plant absorbs the sunlight via photosynthesis this creates food and carbon rich compounds. When the plant dies, they decompose releasing carbon elements into the soil. These elements are nutrients. The nutrients are soon after absorbed by other sprouting plants. Desert animals also decompose when dead also continuing the cycle.
ENERGY FLOW IN THE DESERT
Energy flow is the basis for all biological systems. The primary productivity of an environment is limited by water availability. However, nutrients especially nitrogen and phosphorus, can be limited in some cases. Energy flow diagrams have been useful for modelling the flow of energy such as this. However due to the abundance of hat in the desert it may be more worth while to create a chart displaying water flow.
