Tropical Rainforest's are usually characterized as warm and wet. The average temperature in these areas are 18 °C throughout the year. During a year it rains an average of 200 cm of rain. Tropical rain forests contain around 40% to 75% of all species indigenous to warm climates. On average rain forests are home to half of all the living animal and plant species on the planet. In addition to this two-thirds of all flowering plants can be found in rain forests. A single hectare of rainforest could contain up to 42,000 different species of insect, up to 313 species of trees and 1,500 species of higher plants.
Desert's are landscapes or regions of land that are very dry. This is because of the low rainfall/precipitation. In addition to this desert's often have little coverage by plants. This in turn causes streams to dry up quickly unless they
are supplied by water from outside areas. Desert
plants must have special adaptations to survive with this little water. Deserts
generally receive less than 250 millimetres of rain each year. Semidesert's or
steppes are regions which receive between 400
to 500 millimetres of rain. The deserts contain up to 40 different types of plants. Their are 1,468 different species of animals live in the desert
